The release of NI's updated X1 Controller reminded me of the amalgamation I made a while ago. I sold my S4 many moons ago when the individual controllers were released (X1, Z1 and F1). Enter my Frankensteined S4...crude, kinda ugly yet highly functioning and customized.
I mainly play out with laptops, and like the idea of a small footprint being responsible for maximum output. I wanted the functionality of the S4, but not real estate it claimed (too large). The hassle of setting up 3 individual controllers every time I wanted to play a few songs usually deterred me from doing so.
I printed a few pieces...
...and glued/screwed everything down so I can leave the trio of controllers set up and ready to go, I just plop down my laptop, plug in, and I'm ready to go! The footprint is almost just as big as an S4, but hey it feels way more customized and can be broken down to a smaller pieces. Here's the assembled rig in action!
Below is a mix I originally did on June 27, 2011. Preparing this post has reinvigorated my love for DJing, and I hope to make more time for it. Please enjoy!
